ENDODONTICS
Put an end to root canal pain!
Endodontics is definitely the Dentistry's specialty which has benefited the most from technical and scientific advances in the last decade, and is able to provide faster, easier, safer treatments.
We call Endodontics the specialty dedicated to tooth preservation through prevention, diagnosis, prognosis, treatment and control of changes that may occur in pulp and periradicular tissues.
Among most common causes of damage or death to the pulp and these tissues, we have poor hygiene, cracked or broken teeth, deep caries, or any injuries to the tooth, which may even have been caused by a physical shock.
HOW IS THE ROOT CANAL TREATMENT DONE?
Root canal treatment consists of different stages, which can occur in one or more meetings, depending on the situation. Basically, steps are opening the affected tooth, removing infected pulp (pulpectomy), cleaning the pulp chamber and root canals, which are widened and shaped in preparation for restoration.

Next step is to remove the provisional restoration (if any). Then pulp chamber and root canal are permanently restored. A cone-shaped material made of special rubber called "gutta-percha" is used, which is inserted into each of the canals and usually sealed in place with endodontic cement. After disinfecting and treating the area, the dentist completes the procedure by closing the tooth and restoring its aesthetic and functional characteristics.
